Set a Timer
One look at your mess and you may figure there’s no point in ever starting! Go at it in small bursts of time. Focus on the task for just 30 minutes, then do something else for 30 minutes.
Think Function Over Sentiment
It's too easy to get attached to things that remind you of the good times. Ask yourself these three questions:
- How unique is this item? Think of terms of function. Is this the only thing you have that can do what it does?
- Does this item perform its function better than anything else? You may have different kinds of bottle openers, but odds are you only ever use one of them.
- What does this item mean to me? There’s nothing wrong with sentimental value, but also consider how much space it takes up versus what it does for you.
Use Four Boxes
Divide your clutter into these four categories:
- Keep
- Sell or donate
- Trash
- Storage
It's easy to be intimidated by the stuff in our lives and choose to just live around it. It can feel so good though to de-clutter your home and get back some of that free space. Prescott Maid to Order can help if you are feeling overwhelmed. If it’s time to de-clutter your Prescott home, call us at 928-899-8518. Assuming you can find your phone, that is.
