- Be sure to schedule annual inspections to insure fireplace vents are clean and don’t pose a fire risk
- Make sure to dispose of fireplace ash in a safe place - only after it is completely cool
- Changing your furnace filters regularly will help keep the dust in the house to a minimum and also will help keep the air in your home more healthy
- Invest in carbon monoxide detection devices and make sure batteries are changed regularly, along with your smoke alarms
- If you need a pilot lit, call your local gas company
- Place rubberized mats at door entries to prevent slips and falls, as well preventing some of the dirt, leaves, etc. from messing up the house by catching them at the doorway
- If salt gets tracked in, make sure to clean the flooring immediately, especially hardwood floors
- For candle wax, you can use an orange oil essence cleaner, hot steam, or a plastic putty knife
- Wine stains need a little seltzer water and some stain remover
- Chocolate stains respond well to cold water but may require a stain remover as well
